Our Rottingdean shop is in the heart of the local community and stocks quality clothing, jewellery and accessories. The Manager and current volunteers are looking for friendly, enthusiastic people to join their happy team; it’s a great place to gain experience, use your skills, make friends, meet the public and support a local charity.  

Where: Martlets Shop, 98 High Street, Rottingdean, BN2 7HF 

When: Weekday afternoons, 1pm to 5pm  

Usual minimum commitment: Weekly session(four hours)    

What you’ll be doing:

Assisting the Manager with the smooth running of the shop. Duties to include:

  • Preparing stock ready for sale
  • Refilling and creating displays throughout shops and in window
  • Light cleaning of counters, clothes rails & dusting of stock
  • Serving customers, using cash register, accepting donations
  • Signing up new Gift Aid donors

Your skills and abilities  

  • Friendly manner – good with people  
  • Retail experience is always welcomed but not essential as training will be given  
  • An Interest in stylish clothing, books, records, fashion is also welcomed- we always need people with an eye for something special!   
  • Some roles require you to stand for long periods –Please let us know if you have mobility problems  


  • To attend Martlets Welcome day and participate in any Martlets training relevant to the role 
  • You will need to be reliable, flexible and willing to assist the manager  
  • Be committed to good customer service  
  • Willing to take instructions  
  • Work as part of a team of staff and volunteers
