Martlets is a charity that cares for people living through a terminal illness in and around Brighton and Hove. We have a full calendar of events throughout the year to raise vital funds so our care remains free.  We are looking for volunteer photographers and filmmakers to join us at walks, runs, dances, open gardens, concerts and many other events. Photos and short films will be used on our website, social media, newsletters, promotional materials and in other communications.

Where: At fundraising events and choir concerts - various venues in and around Brighton, Hove and the surrounding area. 

When: Ad hoc but approximately once-twice a month.  Mainly weekends, some evenings and occasional weekday events. 

What you’ll be doing:

  • You will be fully briefed prior to each the event and given a named contact for each event
  • To follow the brief and capture the photos or footage required
  • Recording names of people who have been photographed/filmed
  • Ensuring permissions forms are signed and returned to the communications team
  • Sending the selection of photos after the event to the communications team

If filming:

  • You may be required to interview participants – short Vox Pop style
  • To edit footage in accordance with the brief – including working with the communications team to agree material that should be used
  • To supply appropriate edited files within an agreed time frame

Your skills and abilities:

  • Competent photographer and/or filmmaker – with own camera
  • If filming events, you will need to have access to your own editing software
  • You’ll be independent but able to follow instructions
  • You’ll like meeting people and be confident in asking them questions
  • You’ll need to be approachable and willing to do small vox-pop style interviews if filming
  • You will need to be sensitive to the nature of Martlets work and that people you meet may be terminally ill or recently bereaved.
