The distribution centre is the central point for all our donations including those from house clearances. This is where all goods are stored, sorted, cleaned and distributed. It is a busy warehouse environment next to the Martlets showroom. Our Volunteer Homeware sorters help with household items ranging from crockery, toys, small electrical items, pictures and other goods and getting donations ready for resale.

Where:  Martlets Warehouse, Sussex House Business Park, 270 Old Shoreham Road, Hove BN3 7DX

When: Sessions are between 9am-5pm Monday to Saturday, morning or afternoon sessions 

Usual minimum commitment: Weekly regular session

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lifting and emptying bags of donations
  • Checking donated goods for damage and condition
  • Identifying items suitable for the different shops including any vintage, retro or particularly valuable items as wells as those for recycling
  • Sorting homeware items by type – glass, pottery, china, household items, tools, toys
  • Sorting electrical and electronic items, checking for damage, passing to our PAT testing team
  • Identifying donations that are of higher value and suitable for Martlets E-commerce

Your skills and abilities

  • Be physically fit and able to stand and able to lift boxes and bags
  • Have an interest in second-hand donated homeware
  • Be flexible, adaptable and willing to work on your own or as part of a team
  • Willingness to learn and take instructions
  • An interest in collectables with an ability to spot antiques or valuable items would be an asset

Commitment and expectations:

  • To commit to a regular shift
  • To attend the Martlets Welcome Day
  • Complete any Martlets training relevant to the role
