The Martlets Hospice shop serves mainly patients, visitors, staff and our local neighbours. It’s a small but friendly shop which sells clothes, books, cards, confectionary and toiletries. Our Hospice shop offers a unique opportunity to volunteer directly with patients and their families whilst gaining retail experience at the heart of the hospice. 

Where: Martlets Hospice, Wayfield Avenue, Hove BN3 7LW 

When: We are looking for someone to help out on weekday mornings 9am to 1pm or afternoons 1pm to 4.30pm 

Usual minimum commitment:  A weekly session

 

What you’ll be doing:

To assist the Area Manager with the smooth running of the shop. Duties to include:

  • Preparing stock ready for sale
  • Light cleaning of counters, clothes rails & dusting of stock
  • Serving customers, using cash register, accepting donations

Your skills and abilities

  • Friendly manner – good with people
  • Ability to listen and be sensitive to vulnerable patients and their families
  • Retail experience is always welcomed but not essential as training will be given 

Expectations:

  • To attend Martlets Welcome day and participate in any Martlets training relevant to the role
  • You will need to be reliable, flexible and willing to assist the Area Manager
  • Be committed to good customer service
