Where: Martlets Hospice, Wayfield Avenue, Hove, BN3 7LW

When: Most of our complementary therapies are provided during weekday afternoons, with some availability for weekend complementary therapy.

Usual minimum commitment: 2-3 hours fortnightly for a year. We will agree a regular time that suits your availability.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing therapy to individual patients or carers to help relieve symptoms and to promote relaxation
  • Liaising closely with the Complementary Therapist Coordinator, Day Services Team and Ward Staff
  • Delivering therapy on our In-Patient Unit and in our Complementary Therapy Suite (Day Services Patients)
  • Maintaining clear, concise and accurate treatment records

Your skills and abilities:

  • Be a fully qualified practitioner who can provide massage and/or aromatherapy and /or reflexology
  • Registered with a recognised authority/body
  • Good communicator with the ability to listen to and respond to people sensitively
  • Have a friendly and patient nature towards clients
  • We would prefer experienced therapists, but life experience and personal qualities are also important, and therefore we will consider newly qualified therapists.
  • Understanding of the importance and practice of confidentiality
  • Good IT skills (you will be required to use our internal database)

Expectations:

  • To attend our staff and volunteer welcome day and two days training for the role
  • To undergo an enhanced DBS check and two references
  • To attend weekday supervision meeting once every 3 months
  • To comply with Martlets policies and procedures
