The Martlets Café offers a friendly atmosphere for staff, patients and visitors to enjoy a drink or something to eat – and we’d love for you to join our team.

Where: Martlets Community Café, Martlets Hospice, Wayfield Avenue, Hove, BN3 7LW

When: Shifts: Monday to Friday 9am-12pm or 12pm-3pm

Usual minimum commitment: 3-hour shift

What you’ll be doing:
This role supports the Café manager in the smooth running of the Café by:

  • Assisting with the preparation of food (light lunches/snacks) and hot and cold drinks
  • Assisting with the cleaning of the kitchen and Café seating area
  • Serving customers and using the till

Your skills and abilities:

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Confident at taking orders, preparing food and serving
  • Confident at using a cash register
  • To have an understanding of hygiene and safety procedures
  • Flexible, reliable and willing to work on your own or as part of a team
  • Sensitive to the vulnerability of our patients


  • To attend Martlets Welcome Day and any necessary training relevant to the role
  • To provide a friendly, professional customer service
  • To be sensitive to the emotional situation some visitors and patients may be experiencing
  • To have an understanding of the importance of confidentiality
