The warehouse is the central point for all our donations including those from house clearances. This is where all goods are stored, sorted, cleaned and distributed. It’s a busy warehouse environment next to the Martlets furniture showroom. Bric-a-brac sorters are among a number of volunteer roles helping to get donations ready for resale. 

Where: Martlets Warehouse, Unit 5, Sussex House Business Park, 270-274 Old Shoreham Road, Hove BN3 7DX

When: Morning or afternoon shifts: Mon-Sat 9am-5pm and Sun 10.30am-3.30pm 

Usual minimum commitment: Weekly 4-hour shift

What you’ll be doing: Sorting donated bric-a-brac and household items, ready for sale in our shops and through e-commerce.

  • Checking donated goods for damage and condition
  • Identifying items suitable for the different shops including any vintage, retro or particularly valuable items as well as those for recycling
  • Sorting items by type - glass, pottery, toys, china, household items, tools, electronic, etc.
  • Moving bags and trolleys and stacking goods safely on shelves or pallets
  • Assisting with general warehouse cleaning and tidying up

Your skills and abilities:

  • Must be physically fit, able to stand for long periods and able to lift boxes and bags 
  • Willingness to learn and take instructions  
  • Happy to be part of team but also work independently
  • An interest in collectables with an ability to spot antiques or valuable items would be an asset

Expectations: You will need to attend a Welcome Day and complete Martlets training in health and safety
