Four ways you can volunteer at Martlets

As the festive season is in full flow – people like you are thinking more and more about ways you can give.

But that doesn’t just have to be money – we rely on volunteers to keep us going. In the last year, 498 individual volunteers helped us deliver life-changing hospice care in our community. So if you’re pondering giving your time, here are four ways we need help right now at Martlets.

1. Be a kitchen volunteer for our bereavement groups

Based at the hospice, this role involves being a friendly face serving tea and cake at our bereavement social evenings. We need your time for a few hours on the first Wednesday of every month, along with a few other dates in the year.

At our social evenings, the recently bereaved come together, make friends and find a way to enjoy moments at a time of deep pain and loss. Your help will be crucial in the smooth running of these events.

2. Volunteer with us at Plot 98

We’ve recently taken on our own allotment – for our allotment project, Earthworks. If you’re green-fingered, could you come and help us maintain it?

If you volunteer, you will be repairing damaged structures, building raised beds and more.

3. Be retail savvy at Blatchington Road

This year we re-decorated at Blatchington Road, our flagship store in Hove and it has quickly become a must-visit destination for savvy shoppers. With its own dedicated donation station, this store is the perfect place for shoppers to drop off pre-loved goods whilst browsing for a bargain.

Volunteering in our shops can be as frequent or infrequent as you like – and we build it all around you. If Blatchington Road isn’t the right store for you, make sure you pop in to your local Martlets shop to find out how you can join the team.

4. Take it online

Are you a dedicated online shopper or do you enjoy the idea of selling something unusual? Our E-Commerce team is the perfect place to put your skills to the test.

Selling a mixture of vintage finds and collectables, the stock on our eBay and Amazon sites is constantly changing.  We’ve even sold a 20ft sailing boat and a bathroom sink!

Not right for you? We’re committed to making volunteering as flexible as possible for those who can do it. If you’ve got some skills and time to give, get in touch with our People Services team who can help you discover what volunteering at Martlets can be. And thank you.
