Martlets fundraising
"The Martlets Hospice has to raise £3 million a year from charitable activities. The money comes through all sorts of fundraising activities designed to appeal to people of different interests and all ages. Everyone can find something to get involved with and do their bit towards raising money, All the different things we do ensure that fundraising is constantly new and interesting and there is lots of fun to be had through joining in..."

Some of the things we do:
Events and Sponsorship - People from across the local community organise their own fundraising events. Many individuals, schools, businesses, societies and clubs all support the hospice by organising their own events or supporting those arranged by the hospice.
Lottery - The Martlets has its own weekly lottery with over 6,500 members - it's an exciting way to support the hospice and also have the chance of winning £1,000!
Donations - Although services are offered free of charge, all users and their relatives make contributions to the costs of their treatment and care. Many families continue to support the Martlets over many years. People are encouraged to make regular donations taking advantage of the Gift Aid Scheme to increase the value of their gift.
In Memoriam Donations - Throughout the course of a year, many families choose to remember a loved one by asking for donations to be sent to the Martlets in lieu of funeral flowers. This they do even if they have had no previous connection with the hospice.
Legacies - Many people choose to support our work by making a gift to the hospice when drawing up or changing their Will.
Charitable Trusts and Foundations - We actively seek the financial support of Charitable Trusts for operational costs, specific projects, equipment and capital developments.
Shops - We have six shops, a furniture showroom and a distribution warehouse. These are mainly staffed by volunteers, who raise much-needed funds by selling goods kindly donated by the public.
Gifts in Kind - People don't always need to give money. Some people donate other items we can use like office furniture or printing services. Others generously give their time as volunteers. The hospice is often asked whether it needs equipment and other items and we produce a wish list for this purpose.
FundRaising Standards Board - In July 2007, the Hospice became a member of the FundRaising Standards Board. Membership confirms our commitment to legal requirements and best practice recommendations in all our fundraising activities. Our donors and supporters can be assured that we meet the highest fundraising standards and they will be able to give with confidence as a result. Go to the ‘FundRaising Standards Board’ page in this section of our website for more details including our Fundraising Promise to donors, our fundraising standards and how to complain about our fundraising activities.
