The In Patient Unit at the Martlets is a warm and friendly place, with 18 beds providing end of life care for men and women suffering from cancer and other complex diseases such as neurological conditions and heart conditions.

“When patients and families first arrive at the hospice they often feel scared or anxious but we help them to feel comforted and safe. Although we sometimes get very busy, we still create a warm and welcoming environment where patients can get their symptoms well managed, and families can feel at home. The food is homemade and tasty, and we offer relaxation/visualisation, acupuncture and massage. Support is on-hand from councillors, social workers and our chaplain for all our patients and their families if they need it. There is also a jacuzzi bath and a beautiful garden, all rooms open out onto the garden. We respect people as individuals, not as "patients", and I feel that The Martlets is an accepting and generous place.

It’s a common misconception that you will only come to a hospice for end of life care, actually about 50% of the Martlets patients come in for treatment and then return home, where they can be cared for by our Martlets @ Home team or visit the Day Hospice.
